Devara Part- 1 Review :-

Devara was written and directed by Koratala Siva, who previously helmed the unsuccessful film Acharya. This time, he has crafted a story rich in action and drama, opting to tell it in two parts. The film establishes its tone with an engaging introductory fight, clan revelations, and a central conflict that flips the narrative on its head. While the action is plentiful, the drama feels somewhat lacking.

The emotional moments are effective, but the necessary drama doesn’t reach its full potential, as much of it has been reserved for the second part. However, in terms of action, Devara delivers on its promise. There were initial concerns about how the water-based action sequences would be executed, but Koratala Siva has ensured that the VFX is top-notch, leaving no room for criticism regarding the visuals.

Devara Part 1 is a grand spectacle, featuring stunning visuals and dynamic action from NTR. Koratala Siva successfully immerses viewers in a captivating world during the first half. However, the film encounters several issues in the second half. When senior NTR goes missing, the younger NTR takes center stage, and Janhvi Kapoor’s character is introduced. Unfortunately, the central conflict takes a backseat, leading to a typical commercial film format with songs and dance.

The second half suffers from pacing problems, and the emotional beats often feel forced. Momentum only picks up in the pre-climax when a major twist is revealed. Yet, this twist is predictable and echoes the plot of Baahubali 1 regarding why Katappa killed Baahubali. Despite this, the stylishly crafted action sequences keep the audience engaged.

As the story progresses into the second part, the scenes designed to hook viewers aren’t particularly strong. It seems that NTR and Koratala Siva opted for a safe approach, delivering the first part filled with action and basic emotional beats. Unfortunately, the excitement typically associated with NTR’s films is lacking.

In terms of performances, Jr. NTR excels as always, skillfully portraying both of his characters. However, it’s the character of Devara that truly comes to life through his performance. NTR’s delivery of his lines, his intense expressions, and his confrontations with Saif Ali Khan are all showcased impressively.

Saif Ali Khan delivers a strong performance in his role as Bhairaa, bringing significant depth to the film. However, it feels like he’s somewhat underutilized. Audiences expected intense confrontations between Saif and NTR, but those moments are lacking, although their fistfight is well-executed.

Janhvi Kapoor makes her entrance in the second half and makes an immediate impact. Despite only having two songs, she fits her role as Thagam beautifully and looks glamorous. Srikanth is solid in his role, as are Zarina Wahab and Murali Sharma. While the film features multiple characters, they aren’t fully developed. The writing suffers, largely due to the director’s decision to split the story into two parts.

Devara Part- 1 Trailor :-

The technical team deserves commendation for their efforts in Devara, which is visually stunning and feels quite grand. One of the film’s standout elements is Anirudh’s exceptional music score. From the songs to the background music, Anirudh elevates the film, enhancing even the dull scenes and action sequences with his compositions.

The set design is impressive, and Ratnavelu’s cinematography shines throughout. The visual effects are well-executed, complementing the film’s darker tone. The production values are top-notch, with every dollar spent evident on screen.

After six years without a solo release, Jr. NTR had high hopes for Devara. While the action sequences are engaging, the emotional moments fall flat. Fans will undoubtedly appreciate his stylish new avatar, but for the general audience, Devara may come off as a passable watch, primarily due to its grandeur and action.

Final Thoughts

Overall, Devara Part 1 is a stylish action drama featuring a fantastic performance from Jr. NTR. While the visuals and action sequences are impressive, the dramatic elements fall short. The setup for the second half feels underdeveloped, making the film merely a passable experience. It’s best to lower your expectations and approach the film with an open mind.
