Actress Asheema Vardaan gained prominence for her portrayal of Devika in Dev DD season 1 and her role as a schizophrenic villain in Abhay 2 on ZEE5. She returns as Devika in ZEE5 and Alt Balaji’s Dev DD season 2, directed by Harsh Dedhia and Samar Shaikh. Devika sheds light on the show and why viewers shouldn’t miss Dev DD season 2.
The series tackles significant issues of LGBTQ rights and female foeticide, with Vardaan commenting, “This time, the show primarily addresses female foeticide and LGBTQ issues. It highlights Queer Marriage, shedding light on the fact that queer individuals lack marriage rights enjoyed by their straight counterparts. It’s disheartening to witness the unequal treatment under the law, leading to social stigma and marginalization.”
Inspired by Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay’s Devdas, the show provides a female perspective. Vardaan explains, “The show offers a reinterpretation of Devdas from a female viewpoint, resonating with the sensibilities of today’s youth. It revolves around Devika, a seemingly uncomplicated girl entangled in complex relationships. As the story unfolds, viewers witness her rebellious nature juxtaposed with her desire for simple love.”
Season 2 delves deeper into serious topics beyond feminism, sexism, and homophobia. Vardaan elaborates, “Season 2 delves into more profound issues often overlooked by society, such as feminism, sexism, and homophobia. Devika openly challenges these societal norms, confronting them head-on. The show addresses these themes in both bold and subtle ways.”

Devika returns with her flamboyant lifestyle, grappling with crucial decisions. Vardaan reflects on her character, stating, “It’s all about Devika, introducing two new characters—Paritosh in Devika’s life and Aditi in Anurag’s life. The arrival of these love interests adds an intriguing twist. Devika embodies rebellion and fearlessness, fighting for her love and family while discerning between right and wrong.
