Despatch (Zee5) Review :-

Joy Bag’s desperate drive to prove his professional worth highlights his struggle to maintain control over the various aspects of his life, which are steadily slipping from his grasp. At 153 minutes, the film provides a drawn-out exploration of his slow uncovering of the Spectrum Scam while he investigates the daylight murder of a gangster. Joy’s life is in turmoil—print journalism is fading, his work lacks the sensationalism that once defined it, and his marriage is disintegrating as he embarks on an affair with a colleague.

Amidst his mounting personal and professional struggles, Joy finds his only outlet in a new murder case. However, he may not fully realize the danger this investigation holds, leading him to face severe consequences. The film is gripping at times, with a central plot involving the scam that is full of twists and well-executed, featuring several intriguing moments that will keep you hooked. The story remains grounded, never feeling contrived or as though it’s trying to be something it’s not.

Despatch feels more like a character-focused film than one driven by its plot. The central conflict often seems to lie within Joy Bag himself rather than in the events around him. His life is a chaotic mess, and his attempts to solve problems only make things worse, which can be frustrating at times. Not only is he completely unsympathetic toward both his wife and girlfriend, but his desperate need to prove himself to others becomes a major focus of the film. While this adds depth to the story and sparks interesting discussion, it also makes it hard to feel any sympathy for him, ultimately leaving you with a sense of being shortchanged.

Despatch (Zee5) Trailor :-

On that note, Bajpayee’s portrayal of Joy can be quite irritating at times. While the writers and director attempt to inject some subtle humor into his character, which works for the most part, there are many moments where his behavior is so grating that it’s hard to feel any sympathy for him. He’s consistently self-centered, which becomes frustrating, especially when a shocking scam unfolds beneath the surface. The film could have been trimmed to deliver a more concise and impactful experience, but its lengthy runtime may leave viewers feeling disengaged at times. Additionally, the abundance of raunchy sequences not only feels uncomfortable but also unnecessary.

Final Thought

In the end, Despatch is entertaining and gripping in moments, managing to keep viewers hooked during its most intense scenes. However, it’s the slower, drawn-out moments in between that disrupt the flow of the film. These sections can feel tedious, at times even boring, and occasionally too explicit for comfort. A shorter, more focused story would have allowed the film to deliver the impact it was capable of. Ultimately, despite its potential, the film left me somewhat disappointed.
