Deceitful Love (Netflix) Review :-

In Netflix’s latest Italian series, an ominous and mysterious atmosphere surrounds as Elia forcefully inserts himself into Gabriella’s life. It’s clear that everyone has secrets, and the series wastes no time diving deep into this provocative age-gap relationship.

Age-gap relationships are currently in vogue in the media, from Anne Hathaway and Nicholas Galitzine’s The Idea of You to Zac Efron and Nicole Kidman’s A Family Affair. Interestingly, Kidman is also starring in another age-gap film this year titled Babygirl. This trend underscores the fascination with the power dynamics inherent in such relationships, although Deceitful Love‘s portrayal may deviate from the norm.

From the start, Elia’s persistent pursuit of Gabriella is unsettling. She, lonely and somewhat melancholic, finds solace amidst her adult children in her Amalfi Coast hotel. Despite Elia’s enigmatic and worrisome presence, Gabriella is drawn to his charms, exacerbated by his frequent displays of physical attractiveness, which at times make viewers uneasy.

Setting aside the sexual aspect, one can’t help but ponder the family’s fascination with Elia. From the youngest son to Gabriella herself, everyone is captivated by the enigmatic and potentially dubious Elia. It begs the question of what might be in Gabriella’s past that causes her to overlook the warning signs around her. Amidst condescending and controlling sons, there’s an unsettling air surrounding the visitor, compelling viewers to unravel the mystery behind everyone’s peculiar behaviors.

The series touches on an important societal point amidst Gabriella’s emotional turmoil and her children’s indifferent attitudes toward older women dating younger men. While society often accepts older men with younger women, the reverse frequently meets with resistance. Watching Gabriella find her own liberation is empowering, yet her journey is fraught with hysterical outbursts and a son who refuses to mind his own business.

However, Deceitful Love doesn’t break new ground with its provocative relationship or its mysterious premise. The tumultuous relationship between Gabriella and Elia oscillates frustratingly from hatred to love and back again, becoming wearisome. Elia’s perpetual look of mild frustration adds to the monotony. Ultimately, the series’ reliance on excessive drama detracts from any serious or introspective exploration. Inconsistencies abound, and the twists and turns feel superficial and hastily conceived.

Deceitful Love (Netflix) Trailor :-

I understand getting swept up in love after years of loneliness, but Gabriella’s willingness to overlook so many things is incredibly hard to accept. One would expect a 60-year-old business owner to have better judgment, regardless of gender. As their relationship begins to feel insincere and devoid of passion, it becomes difficult for viewers to stay invested in their romance. The series fails to build intrigue in either the romantic or thriller aspects, resulting in a disjointed viewing experience that leaps from one plot point to another at dizzying speed.

Watching Gabriella’s older son and ex-husband try to assert control over her is also disheartening. Their condescending demeanor is grating, even if that was the intended effect. It’s uncomfortable to witness random dramatic incidents unfold solely for the sake of heightened tension. All the male characters in the series are portrayed superficially, lacking nuance or depth, and adhering predictably to their roles in such a narrative.

The final episode is particularly problematic, culminating in a court hearing where emotional speeches overshadow factual discussions. The judge inexplicably tolerates this spectacle, leaving viewers questioning why the family didn’t opt for more practical solutions like family counseling instead of engaging in attention-seeking behavior.

Final Thought

By the conclusion of this wild journey, the Italian series reveals itself to be a melodramatic and chaotic affair. While it begins with excitement and a surge of sexual energy, everything rapidly deflates towards the end, leaving viewers with numerous unanswered questions.
