It’s rare to see a group of talented women come together in one show, running a dabba service that’s actually a front for a drug empire. But when it happens, it’s absolutely thrilling. Netflix’s Dabba Cartel, featuring some of India’s most recognized names, follows five women who unite to take control of their lives in a world dominated by men who constantly overlook them. Despite its focus on the drug trade, the series has a surprisingly empowering undertone, with a tense energy lurking in the background that’s hard to ignore.
But the show isn’t just about drugs. What makes it so compelling is the raw, relatable portrayal of the women’s diverse struggles. From Hari overshadowing Raji’s needs to Preeti’s desperate fight to crack the case and earn respect, it offers an emotional look at the everyday challenges women face, often unnoticed. The series also touches on women’s quest for something more exciting than just cooking and watching TV, providing an interesting perspective—though, of course, I wouldn’t recommend getting involved in the drug trade.
The most captivating part of Dabba Cartel, without a doubt, is Shabana Azmi. Her motivations and commanding presence are impossible to look away from. The series is skillfully crafted, shifting between two different parts of the story to paint a fuller picture. It’s a thrilling ride, with the plot jumping from one point to another in a way that not only ties everything together but also builds anticipation, keeping us eagerly awaiting what’s next.
That said, I won’t pretend that everything in this Netflix series feels entirely believable. As the story progresses, it reaches a point where things start to feel a bit far-fetched, and the overall direction begins to lose focus. The plots, particularly the dabba service angle, get a little too exaggerated—it’s hard to buy into the idea that five women with minimal resources could pull off such a scheme. Without getting too detailed, what really threw me off were the characters’ decisions and choices. At times, they felt overly naive, which made it tough to fully connect with their actions.
There are moments in Dabba Cartel that might leave viewers questioning the logic behind certain decisions. The story—and the women’s fates—take a sharp turn when Raji, Mala, and Shahida are presented with an opportunity to sell more than just weed. However, I couldn’t help but wonder why a particular character would make such an unusual choice, especially given their earlier shock over the price of the drug. I’m being vague on purpose to avoid spoilers, but it feels out of place and detracts from the characters’ development. Unfortunately, it also raises doubts about their judgment.
As the series progresses towards its climax, things become increasingly chaotic. While the performances will keep you hooked, the storyline veers so far from reality that it becomes difficult to take seriously. That being said, I do give credit where it’s due—Dabba Cartel does touch on a crucial and fascinating issue surrounding pharmaceutical companies, their shady practices, and fake trials. I just didn’t care for the way it was executed.

It’s clear that everyone will continue to play their games, Sheila has reached her breaking point, and things are bound to get even more outrageous if there’s a next season. Whether you’ll be satisfied with the unresolved ending depends entirely on how much you buy into the series’ plotlines, but for me, it was undeniably entertaining in its over-the-top way. I found myself oddly hooked throughout its entire run.

Dabba Cartel is an entertaining watch if you can overlook its flaws. While it occasionally becomes far-fetched and implausible, it’s the strong performances of the protagonists and the underlying messages that keep you engaged. However, it can test your patience more often than you’d like.
