Cruel Intentions (AmazonPrimeVideo) Review :-

Bratty, wealthy teenagers have been a staple of movies and TV shows for years, consistently testing the patience of audiences in ways that are oddly impressive. However, Cruel Intentions on Prime Video takes this to a whole new level, with a plot that feels stagnant from episode to episode and a cast of characters that lack any real originality.

The series follows the same relationship dynamics as the original but is set in a more elite school, with the Vice President’s daughter, Annie Grover, caught in the middle of the step-siblings’ games. However, it fails to capture the thrill or shock value of the original. The story is unnecessarily stretched across eight episodes, adding little to nothing new or surprising, leaving viewers confused about the purpose of rehashing the movie in the first place.

The series attempts to explore the class divisions within these schools and the violent culture of hazing in various sororities and fraternities, but this theme feels superficial, never evolving beyond a mere subplot. The storyline involving Caroline and Lucien feels like something we’ve seen countless times before—and that’s because we have. It lacks the same impact as the original, mainly because a plot like this was relatively fresh and provocative at the time. Now, with films like Your Fault, we’ve seen this topic explored so much that it no longer feels groundbreaking, just a tired rehash told through an outdated lens.

As for the performances, they’re decent—Sarah Catherine Hook and Zac Burgess certainly exude a sense of malice, but they never quite capture the chilling intensity that Sarah Michelle Gellar and Ryan Phillippe brought to their roles. There’s a noticeable lack of tension between the characters, so their chemistry feels weak. At times, they even come across as somewhat naive. While there are moments of vulnerability in their performances, it doesn’t add anything new or remarkable. Their quirks feel neither fresh nor particularly distinctive, making the characters feel all too familiar.

Cruel Intentions (AmazonPrimeVideo) Trailor :-

I have to admit, Cruel Intentions really tested my patience with some of its characters. I couldn’t understand how Savannah Lee Smith’s Annie Grover remains so clueless by the end of eight episodes, and Sara Silva’s CeCe Carroway was an irritating presence that I found myself skipping over multiple times throughout the series. Once again, I fail to see the point of redoing an old movie without adding anything new, especially when the story is stretched out to a point where it no longer makes sense. But maybe that’s just me.

The most frustrating part, however, is the series ending on a cliffhanger. After eight episodes, we’re left without any sort of resolution. The show introduces a number of troubling storylines, takes us on a tedious chase, and then fails to deliver a satisfying conclusion, leaving audiences feeling let down. By the time it wraps up, you’re left feeling blindsided and disappointed by the lack of closure.

Final Thought

In the end, I couldn’t grasp the purpose of Prime Video’s Cruel Intentions. It features attractive characters engaging in a mix of woke and cruel actions, but it offers nothing shocking or original. Instead, it leaves viewers feeling disappointed by the lack of closure and a cohesive ending. Honestly, it’s probably best to skip the series and just watch the movie—it’s shorter and more impactful.
