Coolie 2025 Review :-

The film opens at a busy port in Vizag, where kingpin Simon (Nagarjuna) and his aide Dayal (Soubin Shahir) run an illegal operation. After a police order halts their practice of dumping bodies at sea, they turn to Rajshekhar (Sathyaraj), a former laborer who invented a chair that can instantly cremate bodies, reducing them to ashes. Though initially rejected by the government for its dangerous potential, the invention now falls into the wrong hands. When Rajshekhar is killed, his longtime friend Deva (Rajinikanth), who has been working behind the scenes, steps in. What starts as a quest to find his friend’s killer soon uncovers hidden secrets from Deva’s past, linking old unfinished business to the present conflict.

The first half of Coolie leans heavily into fan service—packed with songs, dances, punchy dialogues, and plenty of swagger. While this slows the film’s momentum and lingers a bit too long on character introductions that could have been handled more swiftly, the second half is where director Lokesh truly hits his stride and delivers a real treat. Numerous cameos land perfectly, adding meaningful weight to the story, with well-timed twists that keep the audience hooked.

Despite its lengthy runtime, Coolie roars as a vibrant tribute to Rajinikanth’s legacy—overflowing with energy, nostalgia, and pure mass appeal. Learning from the pacing issues of his previous film, Lokesh Kanagaraj crafts a tighter, more impactful second half, utilizing his pan-India stars through well-defined, purposeful characters. Nagarjuna shines as the drug lord Simon, embracing his villainy with calculated finesse, while Soubin Shahir proves to be an inspired casting choice whose presence lingers long after he’s gone. Rachita Ram’s surprise role steals the spotlight, effortlessly commanding the screen and delivering one of the film’s smoothest, most organic action sequences. Upendra exudes effortless cool as Rajini’s silent yet formidable right-hand man, matching the superstar’s energy blow for blow in the high-octane set pieces.

Rajinikanth, as expected, delivers exactly what fans want—effortless charisma, undeniable style, and a commanding screen presence. The flashback scenes, especially those featuring Rajini and Sathyaraj, are a real treat, bringing two icons together on screen for the first time in 40 years. Sathyaraj and Shruti Haasan provide strong support, balancing their roles without ever going over the top. The film’s mass appeal and emotional moments keep the second half gripping, with well-timed outbursts hitting perfectly. The de-aging effect on Rajinikanth is pure fan service—flawlessly executed and adding a nostalgic punch. Shruti’s character acts as the emotional anchor of the story, while even Aamir Khan’s cameo feels smartly integrated, adding intrigue without disrupting the flow.

Lokesh seems to have learned from the tonal missteps of his previous film, striking a much smarter balance here. He directs Rajinikanth with genuine fanboy enthusiasm but never lets it overshadow his own filmmaking style, confidently blending style, story, and spectacle. While this film may not quite reach the heights of Kaithi or Vikram, it’s far from disappointing, offering a thoroughly entertaining experience that keeps the audience engaged. Anirudh’s music stands out as a highlight—his songs are crowd-pleasers, and the background score elevates the action brilliantly, even if the emotional scenes lean on somewhat familiar musical cues.

Final Thought

While the first half could’ve used a tighter edit, the second half more than makes up for it, turning Coolie into a high-energy, nostalgic, and thoroughly entertaining ride. It stands out as one of Rajinikanth’s most electrifying performances in recent years—outshining his recent films in both style and intensity. More than just fan service, Coolie strikes a fine balance between nostalgia and engaging storytelling, appealing to both die-hard fans and casual viewers alike. The cameos are especially well-executed, surpassing those in Lokesh’s previous films by feeling integral to the narrative rather than shoehorned in. Packed with explosive action, magnetic star power, and smartly timed surprises, Coolie delivers a satisfying mix of mass appeal and crowd-pleasing spectacle.
