Additionally, intrigue surrounds LaRusso’s former mentor, the late Miyagi-san, who seems to have one last secret. The trailer hints at something concealed within a box—is it a keepsake, an heirloom, or perhaps a new fighting technique? Fans will discover the answer when the new season premieres in July.

Who is in the Cobra Kai season 6 cast?
Ralph Macchio and William Zabka reprise their iconic roles as Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence, a return that fans eagerly anticipated.
Joining them are Xolo Maridueña, Mary Mouser, Tanner Buchanan, Peyton List, Griffin Santopietro, Jacob Bertrand, Gianni DeCenzo, and Yuji Okumoto reprising his role as Chozen.
Among the adult cast, Courtney Henggeler, Vanessa Rubio, and Alicia Hannah-Kim as Kim Da-Eun are set to return. Sean Kanan’s status as Mike Barnes remains uncertain, depending on the direction of the story.
Martin Kove returns as Kreese following his dramatic jailbreak in the Season 5 finale. According to Jon Hurwitz, “Kreese, who escapes at the end, is the one person poised to stir up trouble. There’s a lot of drama ahead.”
As for Thomas Ian Griffith, who portrays Terry Silver, Hurwitz hints at uncertainty: “This may be the conclusion for Terry Silver—or maybe not. With a character of his resources and determination, anything is possible. We’ve enjoyed working with Thomas Ian Griffith immensely over the past few years. Time will tell if there’s more to explore with him.”
A compelling addition to the cast is C.S. Lee, announced by Deadline. Lee joins as Master Kim Sun-Young from The Karate Kid lore, having taught Kreese, Silver, and season 5’s Kim Da-Eun, his granddaughter.
Possible Cobra Kai season 6 story and theories
In January 2023, showrunners Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz, and Hayden Schlossberg announced via an open letter that Netflix had renewed the show for its sixth and final season.
“Our goal since day one with Cobra Kai has been to conclude the series on our own terms, leaving the Valley in the time and place we’ve always envisioned. We’re immensely proud and grateful to achieve this. Season six will bring Cobra Kai to its conclusion,” the trio wrote.
“While this may be a bittersweet day for the fans, the Miyagiverse has never been stronger,” the letter continues. “This fandom is unparalleled, and we look forward to continuing to tell Karate Kid stories with you in the future. Because, as we all know, Cobra Kai Never Dies.”
Cobra Kai Season 5 concluded with Cobra Kai seemingly disbanded, Terry Silver arrested for his crimes, and Kreese escaping from prison. Miguel and Robby also reconciled, while Johnny embraced his new role as a family man.
At present, things seem neatly tied up. However, the looming Sekai Taikai tournament, dubbed the “Super Bowl of karate,” remains a focal point for the creators when contemplating future seasons.
“We’re still fleshing out the details, but it’s set to be the biggest tournament yet in the series,” Schlossberg noted. “We have numerous ideas for the future trajectories of these characters.”
With a global karate tournament potentially in the works, the show’s two remaining antagonists, Kreese and Sensei Kim Da-Eun, who held sway over Cobra Kai, could rally a new team for the Sekai Taikai. This possibility is certainly under consideration.
What else have the creators said about Cobra Kai season 6?
“Rather than viewing Season 6 as a single final season, my advice is to think of it as 3 distinct mini-seasons,” co-creator Jon Hurwitz wrote on Twitter. “Each segment was written with the release plan in mind, designed to be enjoyed in 5-episode chunks. Waiting for all 15 episodes to release will not enhance your viewing experience.”
This approach makes sense, especially given the show’s expanded scope this year.
Co-creator Hayden Schlossberg previously hinted at the season’s growth and improvement.
“We’re always aiming to elevate it while staying true to the essence of the original movie,” Schlossberg explained. “I often draw comparisons to the Rocky movies: there’s always a fresh perspective, something grander, or a return to the core elements that define it.”
“But you know what to expect: awesome montages, Johnny’s brilliance, and some major soap opera moments still ahead.”
Speaking to Collider, the creators emphasized their aversion to retreading old ground: “We have a few surprises in store for where we’re headed next, ensuring each season grows in scale. We’re careful not to repeat ourselves.”
Reflecting on the Season 5 finale, Jon Hurwitz noted, “We aimed for a different tone with the finale. It might feel like a series finale to some, but as Kreese once said in an earlier season, ‘Peace is just a lull between battles.'”
Looking ahead, he added optimistically, “We’re excited to keep pushing forward. The Valley seems calm now—let’s see how long that lasts.”
