Chidiya Review :-

Writer-director Mehran Amrohi presents a heartfelt slice-of-life film that balances warmth with emotional depth. The story centers on brothers Shanu and Bua (short for Bhuvan), coping with the recent loss of their father while their mother, Vaishnavi (Amruta Subhash), struggles to keep the family afloat. Pulled out of school, the boys help by delivering sarees to the local tailor, Taj (Inaamulhaq), after he finishes stitching the orders. Though set against a bleak backdrop, the film resists despair, instead offering a tender and sincere tale of childhood, brotherhood, and community support. This uplifting spirit shines through in moments like the boys’ attempts to build a badminton court in their chawl or their work as spot boys on a film set—an opportunity arranged by their uncle Bali (Vinay Pathak), who works the same job. The characters feel genuine and grounded, steering clear of dramatic clichés or exploitative portrayals, with the most antagonistic figure being a quarrelsome neighbour.

Themes of childhood resilience, hope, and community spirit shine brightly, drawing you deeply into the boys’ heartfelt quest for a simple yet meaningful dream—to play badminton. From Taj mending the net with scraps of cloth, to a contractor kindly letting them gather sand and pillars, and a film crew member helping set up lights so they can play at night after work—these moments overflow with warmth and generosity. The entire experience is made even more touching by the outstanding performances from both the young leads and the supporting cast, making the film thoroughly wholesome and memorable.

Svar Kamble and Ayush Pathak deliver brilliant performances, their natural spontaneity bringing authentic warmth to their roles as brothers filled with childlike hopes and dreams. Amruta Subhash shines as the overwhelmed mother who hasn’t yet had the chance to grieve her husband’s death, perfectly balancing frustration with profound love for her children through subtle, heartfelt acting. She particularly stands out in the poignant scene where she sends her sons off on a 15-day outdoor shoot. Vinay Pathak is equally compelling as the caring and supportive uncle. One of the film’s most touching moments comes when the three of them openly discuss their loss and the boys’ struggle to come to terms with it. Inaamulhaq adds charm with his ribald but never vulgar portrayal of the local tailor, while Brijendra Kala leaves a mark as the tea vendor on the film set.
