Chhota Bheem and the Curse of Damyaan Review :-
Chhota Bheem, the beloved cartoon character of toddlers, leads an enthralling adventure with his Dholakpur friends in this live-action adaptation. The film faithfully captures the essence of the show, blending humor provided by Kalia and his cohorts with thrilling showdowns against fantastical foes.
While the narrative strives for a grand escapade, certain elements, such as the fantastical realms and effects, come off as gimmicky and exaggerated. The storyline traverses familiar ground with its themes of time travel and battles against demonic adversaries. However, the emphasis on action sequences sometimes overwhelms the narrative, detracting from its depth. Although Bheem engages in numerous skirmishes with creatures like giant spiders, scorpions, and tigers, the execution and effects could have been refined to deliver a more immersive experience. As a result, these encounters may feel repetitive after a while.
The storyline revolves around Damyaan, a demon seeking a pure-hearted warrior to unlock the crypt in which he has been imprisoned for a millennium. Assisted by Takshika and Skandi, Damyaan deceives Raja Indraverma and kidnaps Bheem and his companions, transporting them to the ancient city of Sonapur to fulfill his sinister plan. However, the narrative takes an unexpected turn when the writers, Shridisha Dilip and Niraj Vikram, delve into a thousand-year-old backstory, leading to a convoluted and lengthy plot. Additionally, musical interludes disrupt the pacing without contributing significantly to the storyline.
Yagya Bhasin delivers a passable performance as Bheem, showcasing adeptness in stunt sequences. Kabir Sajid as Kalia, along with Divyam Dawar and Daivik Dawar portraying Dholu-Bholu, and Advik Jaiswal as Raju, offer entertaining performances that evoke laughter. While Navneet Kaur Dhillon’s portrayal is average, Makrand Deshpande and Anupam Kher provide solid support.
The film’s appeal lies in its depiction of Bheem’s classic encounters with Kalia and his cohorts, as well as the thrilling battles against monstrous adversaries, which may captivate young children. However, the excessive length may challenge their attention span and may not resonate as strongly with older children and adults.
