Chastity High (Netflix) Review :-

The pair caught in the act receive a text from someone named “Love Keeper,” who knows about their presence at the hotel and demands 200,000 yen to keep quiet. If they don’t pay, their relationship will lead to their expulsion from Asuran Academy.

To provide some context: We meet Ichica Arisawa (Yuuki Luna), a student at Asuran Academy who comes from a less privileged background compared to her wealthy peers. The story begins on the first day of the new school year, following the merger of Ichica’s all-girls’ school with an all-boys’ institution. As Ichica spends time with her best friend, Ema (Ichika Osaki), who also comes from a modest background, the arrival of the first group of boys creates quite a commotion.

Among the new boys is Ryogo Maki (Ryubi Miyase), whom Ichica met the previous year at a hospital. Ichica’s mother, Chihiro (Yo Yoshida), had injured her back, while Maki’s friend had broken a bone. Maki is a prominent figure at the school: a star basketball player and the son of a governor who has made substantial donations to the institution. His recognition of Ichica pleases and unsettles her.

At the first-day assembly, Yoko Ikujima (Shinobu Terajima), the school’s strict principal, makes the rules clear: no romance between students, whether on or off campus. This includes no sexual contact or relationships, with expulsion as the penalty for violations. When a student inquires if falling in love is allowed, the principal confirms that while love itself is permitted, expressing those feelings is not.

Maki, a notorious serial dater, largely disregards the school’s no-romance rule, just as he dismisses his father’s visits, which are so awkward that his brother, a new teacher at the school, warns him to be careful.

When Ichica sees Maki kissing another girl, she steps in to divert the principal and basketball coach, preventing them from discovering the scene. The girl offers Ichica money in gratitude, but she declines. However, when Ichica returns home, she learns that her mother is burdened with a massive debt left by her unreliable father, a debt so substantial that Ichica fears they’ll never be able to repay it. This revelation prompts her to put her plan into action.

Final Thoughts

What sets Chastity High apart from similar shows is its strict no-relationships rule. On the surface, this seems like a ludicrous and impractical mandate, with its origins rooted in outdated logic: the principal compares the situation to “tossing rabbits into a lion cage,” suggesting that boys are uncontrollable and girls are naive and easily swayed. This perspective echoes the problematic reasoning behind school dress codes in the U.S., where girls are penalized to prevent distracting boys.

Despite its absurdity, this rule becomes a compelling plot device, particularly as it drives Ichica’s determination. Her resolve to clear her father’s debt and stay in school while aiming for a prestigious college is effectively portrayed by Luna, adding depth to her character’s motivation and actions.

Other storylines include Maki’s strained relationship with his difficult father and top student Sawa Fujino (Shiori Akita), who isn’t interested in dating the boys since they don’t attract her. Meanwhile, the shy Atsushi Kanda (Rintaro Mizusawa) harbors a deep crush on Ichica.

Despite the no-relationships rule, it’s clear that sex and romance will still be central to the plot, with the thrill of potentially getting caught adding to the excitement. Will Ichica succeed in paying off her father’s debt through her blackmail scheme, or will she end up falling for Maki? The series promises ample drama, with plenty of tension between boys and girls, as well as conflicts between working-class and wealthy students.
