Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy Review :-

After nine years, the Bridget Jones series returns with a film that captures the spirit of the present day. While still packed with humor, this fourth installment feels like it’s running low on momentum. The story follows Bridget Jones (Renée Zellweger), now a single mother to 8-year-old Billy and 5-year-old Mabel, after her husband Mark’s death in a Sudan explosion. Overwhelmed by her friends’ constant questions about her love life, she comes to realize her life is in disarray and decides to make a fresh start. She takes a job as a TV producer and begins a fling with Roxster (Leo Woodall), a young biochemistry student who rescues her kids from a tree. At the same time, she develops a connection with Mr. Wallakar (Chiwetel Ejiofor), a science teacher at her children’s school. But things take an unexpected turn when Roxster starts ghosting her.

As the film unfolds, it seems to be drifting away from its original audience and targeting a more Gen Z demographic. The standout moments come from Hugh Grant’s brief appearance, but the central romance—between an older woman and a younger man—feels familiar and has already been explored in recent films like Babygirl and A Family Affair. The storyline lacks originality, relying on clichés rather than offering something new. In fact, the dynamic between Bridget and Mr. Wallakar is far more compelling and interesting.

Renée Zellweger’s portrayal of Bridget Jones in this installment doesn’t quite capture the same charm as her earlier performances. Her delivery feels uneven, lacking the spark that originally made the character so endearing. Leo Woodall’s character is underdeveloped, mostly there to showcase his physique, and his chemistry with Zellweger feels shallow. However, it’s Chiwetel Ejiofor and Hugh Grant who inject energy into the film. Ejiofor stands out as Mr. Wallakar, with his scenes alongside Zellweger being the film’s highlights. Grant, in his brief return as Daniel, brings humor and charisma to the table. But it’s Emma Thompson as Dr. Rawlings who truly leaves a lasting impression, making the most of her limited screen time.

This romantic comedy is a mixed bag, packed with familiar rom-com tropes. While it has its charming and sparkling moments, they feel scattered and brief. It may appeal to younger audiences, but fans of the original film who helped make it a cult classic might find it disappointing.
