Last week, it was reported that due to the Lok Sabha Elections 2024, a couple of films are expected to change their release dates. “Kalki 2898 AD,” featuring Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Kamal Haasan, Disha Patani, and Amitabh Bachchan, was initially set to release on May 9. However, due to the elections in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana on May 13, it is now anticipated to hit theaters by the end of May or in June. Similarly, “Baby John,” starring Varun Dhawan, Keerthy Suresh, Wamiqa Gabbi, and Jackie Shroff, which was slated for release on May 31, has also been rescheduled. Additionally, “The Sabarmati Report” has been delayed.

According to a source, “The makers applied for a certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). However, the Examining Committee raised objections to certain scenes. Moreover, there are concerns that it might violate the model code of conduct set by the Election Commission of India. Hence, it has been advised to release the film after the last phase of elections, scheduled for June 1.”

Another source mentioned, “The CBFC expressed reservations about certain moments in the film that could potentially hurt the sentiments of a section of moviegoers. Consequently, the film’s team may consider reshooting those sequences.”

Originally slated for release on May 3, “The Sabarmati Report” now awaits a new release date. Starring Vikrant Massey, Raashii Khanna, and Ridhi Dogra, it is a political thriller centered on two reporters investigating the burning of the Sabarmati Express at Godhra on February 27, 2002. Produced by Shobha Kapoor, Ektaa R Kapoor, Amul V Mohan, and Anshul Mohan, and directed by Ranjan Chandel.

With “The Sabarmati Report” postponed, there are no other major Hindi films lined up for May 3. The next significant release is the Rajkummar Rao and Janhvi Kapoor starrer “Mr And Mrs Mahi” on May 31.
