Boxer (Netflix) Review :-

Set against the backdrop of fleeing hardships in Poland, Bokser tells a tale of perseverance with a touch of humor that keeps audiences entertained. The Polish film is well-paced, with a storyline that flows smoothly and captivates viewers with its infectious sense of adventure. The lively background score adds to the charm, keeping the atmosphere vibrant throughout. The relationships portrayed, particularly between Kasia and Jedrzej, and Jedrzej’s backstory involving his father and uncle, create strong emotional connections that keep viewers engaged. As Jedrzej and Kasia confront the challenges of being immigrants in London, the film underscores that their journey will not be easy.

The movie truly begins when Jedrzej realizes that life in his new country is not as smooth as it was back home, and that his passion for boxing is not as appreciated by others as it is by himself. His struggle to pursue his dreams and the desire to make a mark beyond being just another immigrant intensifies the narrative. Here, the film shifts away from its light-hearted tone and delves into more serious themes. It’s also the point where Jedrzej’s character begins to evolve into someone who, despite setbacks, seems unable to discern boundaries.

I find it intriguing to observe his ego inflate to the point where he loses sight of himself and his priorities. While it’s distressing to witness someone unravel in this manner, it also feels somewhat clichéd, as many similar movies explore similar themes. The first half of the film captivated me, but as it delved deeper into his life’s complexities and introduced various conflicts, it became evident that the movie was treading familiar ground.

Boxer (Netflix) Trailor :-

Nevertheless, the film remains entertaining. Despite being occasionally frustrating, particularly in watching Kasia endure her husband’s power-hungry behavior, the film navigates the political climate of its era with sensitivity. It offers audiences a glimpse into the period without delving deeply into social critique. The result is a visually appealing and dramatic film that may not be memorable but keeps viewers engaged throughout its runtime. Speaking of which, I felt the runtime could have been trimmed a bit—150 minutes seemed slightly excessive.

Final Thoughts

Boxer evokes a profound sense of sadness that is hard to overlook. As the hardships unfold and the movie’s trajectory becomes clear, one cannot help but empathize deeply with Kasia. Eryk Kulm embodies Jedrzej flawlessly, making you dislike him precisely because of his convincing portrayal. However, it’s Adrianna Chlebicka and Eryk Lubos who truly capture the heart, eliciting genuine emotional responses.

Overall, the film evokes a range of emotions and, while not particularly memorable, it is thoroughly entertaining. The film is visually striking with well-executed cinematography, complemented by a compelling background score that enhances the viewing experience.
