In Bhootteriki, comedy and horror merge into a charming mix, perfect for fans of the 2012 film Bhooter Bhabishyat. Centered around three female spirits haunting a rundown mansion, the series offers light-hearted entertainment that doesn’t aim to be anything more—making it a fun and easy watch when you’re in the mood for something quick and enjoyable.

However, the series offers nothing truly new, feeling like a rehash of better horror comedies we’ve seen over the years. While the glimpses into the ghosts’ lives are amusing, their personalities and daily routines are entirely familiar territory. The only somewhat fresh element is Razia’s storyline involving her relationship with a human man, but beyond that, the show feels quite predictable and formulaic.

At a certain point, I found myself questioning the purpose of watching the show since it offers nothing new or innovative. It’s basically a group of spirits bickering and falling in love—and while I’m all for ghosts chasing dying wishes or seeking revenge, it starts to feel repetitive. How many times can we really go through the same story?

The acting is decent, and there are some genuinely fun moments, but is that enough to keep you hooked? If you’re tired of detective thrillers and want something different, this might be mildly enjoyable. The series tries to highlight everyday struggles and simple desires, but it doesn’t provoke any real thought or reflection. That results in a pretty mediocre experience overall—nothing challenges you, and it’s not quite funny enough to make you laugh out loud. And despite the ghostly premise, it’s hardly scary at all; it’s labeled a horror mainly because of the presence of spirits.

In the end, it becomes clear that the series is trying too hard to live up to its 2012 predecessor. Aside from a surprise cameo by Swastika Mukherjee, it falls short of capturing the humor, depth, and originality that made Bhooter Bhabishyat a cult classic. That film stood out with a plot that went beyond typical slapstick comedy and performances that truly clicked—helped in part by being unique for its time. But what does Bhootteriki bring to the table? How does it set itself apart? Unfortunately, it never really finds an answer, and that’s a real disappointment.

Final Thought

Bhootteriki is an okay watch, but if you’re seeking anything fresh or innovative, this isn’t the show for you. It works well enough as a light, family-friendly distraction—short and easy to get through—but beyond that, its purpose is hard to justify.
