The tea estate belongs to sisters Maya (portrayed by Yami Gautam) and Kanu (portrayed by Jacqueline Fernandez). Vibhooti’s aspirations revolve around women and money, while his younger brother aims to uphold their late father’s legacy by doing noble work. Can these two assist the wealthy-turned-bankrupt sisters in dealing with the spirit that prowls at night?

Directed by Pavan Kirpalani, this horror comedy has its moments, but its childishness sometimes overshadows its quirky charm. Witty one-liners about nepotism and nods to current events like “go-corona-go” are uproarious. The initial setting and premise capture your interest. However, Saif Ali Khan speaking an unfamiliar village dialect with an anglicized accent, in his signature Saif voice, unintentionally elicits laughter. His penchant for portraying unheroic characters off the beaten path is commendable, but his performance in this film leaves viewers conflicted. He oscillates between trying too hard to be funny and lacking investment in his character. Arjun and Yami deliver sincere performances, understanding their roles well. Conversely, Jacqueline and Saif come across more as tourists in Dharamshala, dabbling in acting as a pastime..
“Stree” was a prime example of blending horror and comedy seamlessly, without trivializing either genre. “Bhoot Police” attempts to satirize fraudulent spiritual leaders who deceive people and aims to debunk superstitions and blind faith, yet ends up mocking its own premise. The story suffers from inconsistent execution.
Despite its shortcomings, Jamie Lever, daughter of Johnny Lever, shines as the sole comedic standout. Her character’s rendition of Aishwarya Rai’s romantic song ‘Aao Na’, while her husband struggles in the background, is guaranteed to leave you in stitches. If you’re determined to watch this film, watch it for her performance.
