Be Happy (AmazonPrimeVideo) Review :-

For Dhara Rastogi (Inayat Verma), dance is more than just a passion—it’s her true calling, bringing both joy and purpose. However, for her strict father, Shiv (Abhishek Bachchan), it’s merely a hobby. He insists she focuses on academics, just as her late mother, Rohini (Harleen Sethi), would have wanted. The story follows Dhara and Shiv as he eventually supports her dreams, leading them to move from their hometown of Ooty to Mumbai. There, Dhara joins Maggie’s (Nora Fatehi) renowned dance academy in hopes of winning India’s Superstar Dancer. But when an unexpected twist arises, it threatens to shatter her dream. Can Dhara overcome the challenges and make her dream a reality, with her father by her side?

Directed by Remo D’Souza, Be Happy beautifully captures the tender bond between a father and daughter within the vibrant world of dance. While the storyline may feel predictable and lacks much novelty, the film’s emotional depth and heartwarming moments make it undeniably engaging. The core of the film lies in the evolving relationship between Dhara and Shiv, transitioning from playful banter in the first half to heartfelt emotion in the second. Adding an extra layer of charm is Dhara’s grandfather, Mr. Nadar (Nasser), who joins forces with her against Shiv, leading to some delightful exchanges. Dhara’s sharp wit keeps the tone light and humorous, especially when she jokes after her father misses her dance competition for the third time due to work, saying, “Pata nahi itne inefficient logon ko kaun naukri deta hai” (God knows who hires such inefficient people!).

One of the film’s standout moments is witnessing Shiv’s transformation from an awkward, serious father to a devoted dance partner, supporting Dhara with unwavering dedication. The emotions in these scenes are powerfully conveyed through the art of dance.

Final Thought

The first half of the film feels slow, and with a runtime of over three hours, it can seem a bit long. However, the warmth of the second half makes up for the slower pace. Beyond the captivating dance sequences, the music stands out as a strong point. Harsh Upadhyay’s tracks Devi Aayi and Mere Papa are particularly memorable, especially with Abhishek Bachchan’s heartfelt performances alongside Inayat Verma. Abhishek shines as the devoted widowed father, especially in emotional scenes, and his tentative but sincere dance moves for his daughter are a joy to watch. Inayat Verma delivers a charming and perceptive performance with ease, owning the stage with her dance skills. Nora Fatehi, as always, captivates on the dance floor and brings her role to life with conviction. Nasser steals the show as Dhara’s lively and flirtatious grandfather.

Be Happy is a wholesome, feel-good film that’s perfect for family viewing. Prepare to shed a few tears during the climax and experience a true “rainbow of emotions,” as Dhara describes being on stage.
