Baida Review :-

What happens when a man unknowingly steps into a world where time is fluid and reality is nothing more than an illusion? Baida, directed by Puneet Sharma and written by Sudhanshu Rai (who also stars as the lead), explores this question through a compelling mix of mystery, fantasy, and the supernatural. Set in rural Uttar Pradesh, the film weaves together black magic, science, and a desperate fight for survival into a haunting narrative.

The 109-minute film opens with a chilling pre-independence execution, setting the tone for a mind-bending, eerie thriller. We are introduced to Ram Babu (Sudhanshu Rai), a former intelligence officer who has traded his high-pressure career for a quiet life as a salesman in a remote village. However, his search for peace is shattered when he crosses paths with the enigmatic Pishaach (Saurabh Raaj Jain), pulling him into a nightmarish web of supernatural terror.

The first half of Baida unfolds at a measured pace, maintaining the audience’s interest while leaving them eager for more intensity. It’s the arrival of Pishaach that propels the story into darker, more thrilling territory. As Ram is suddenly transported to British India and faces an impending execution, the film delves into deeper sci-fi and fantasy elements. Just as viewers begin to piece the puzzle together, Ram is thrust back into the present, blurring the lines between time and reality.

Though Baida offers a captivating premise, its execution stumbles in several areas. The film’s low-budget limitations are apparent in its disjointed editing and the overuse of saturated lighting. The red and green hues, meant to heighten the eerie atmosphere, often feel more distracting than immersive. The climax, unfortunately, resolves too conveniently, undermining the tension that had been building throughout the film.

One of Baida‘s standout strengths is its performances. Saurabh Raaj Jain delivers a chilling, menacing portrayal of Pishaach, completely shedding his familiar divine image from past roles. Shobhit Sujay, in the role of Golu, provides much-needed humor, lightening the film’s otherwise intense tone. Manisha Rai anchors the story with a grounded presence, while Hiten Tejwani and Tarun Khanna make a lasting impression, despite their limited screen time.

As Baida unfolds, it introduces the concept of a parallel universe, blending black magic with scientific curiosity. While this idea is intriguing, the film doesn’t fully tap into its supernatural potential, leaving certain aspects feeling underdeveloped. Pishaach’s dark ambition—manipulating life, death, and the afterlife—adds a sinister layer to the narrative, but it lacks the depth needed to leave a truly haunting impact.

Baida Trailor :-

Final Thought

Ram and Golu’s dynamic stands out as a key highlight, striking a perfect balance between tension and comic relief. Their efforts to outsmart Pishaach create several suspenseful, gripping moments, and a brief but impactful cameo by Tarun Khanna as ‘The Doctor’ adds an intriguing layer of mystery.

Though the film begins at a slow pace, Baida gains momentum in its second half, blending suspense with supernatural intrigue. While not without its flaws, the film’s experimental storytelling and unique premise make it an engaging watch for fans of supernatural thrillers.
