Many of us are already familiar with digital content creator Nikunj Lotia, better known as Nick from the Be YouNick YouTube channel. “Apna Villa” serves as an extension of his previous work. The series comprises five episodes, each lasting approximately 15-20 minutes. Co-directed by Nick himself and Vivek Menon, who also co-wrote the show alongside Omkar Shinde and Karan Kunwar, “Apna Villa” offers a light-hearted premise. While the concept holds promise, the execution falls short of delivering consistent laughs, despite the involvement of Nick and his team, known for their comedic content. Nonetheless, the series remains entertaining and worth a watch.

The humor takes some time to find its footing, but as the storyline progresses, it gradually establishes the show’s comedic tone. What begins as situational comedy evolves into a cleverly scripted drama, particularly as the villa transforms into a makeshift vacation home and Manoj (played by Manmeet Pem) is hired as household help. While some punchlines hit the mark, others, like “kunj Bihari kya baat hain tumhari,” feel outdated and out of place in contemporary writing. The banter and one-liners, while not groundbreaking, still manage to provide satisfaction by the series’ end.

The performances of the main characters are convincing, with Nick portraying the laid-back and scheming persona while Tushar serves as the responsible counterpart. Their witty exchanges are a highlight of the series. Manmeet Pem’s portrayal of Manoj, the housekeeper, is delivered with an unusual tone and deadpan expression, keeping viewers intrigued until the climax reveals the motivations behind his actions.

Overall, “Apna Villa” offers moments of humor and is suitable for binge-watching. However, those seeking unconventional comedy may find themselves slightly underwhelmed.
