Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap’s daughter, Aaliyah Kashyap, became engaged to her longtime partner, Shane Gregoire, in 2023, with plans for a 2025 wedding. However, it appears that Aaliyah intends to host an extravagant ceremony, with her father, Anurag, footing the bill. During a recent episode of her podcast, ‘Young, Dumb and Anxious,’ Anurag humorously remarked that the wedding’s budget is likely equivalent to that of one of his indie films.
The podcast commenced with Aaliyah teasing Anurag for rescheduling their recording, prompting him to explain that he was about to commence filming his next project. Jokingly, Aaliyah queried, “Is that more important than your daughter?” To which, Anurag replied, “I have a wedding to plan. Someone’s getting married, and the budget is on par with my low-budget movies.”
As Anurag discussed the wedding budget, Aaliyah quipped, “It’s okay. I’m your only daughter. I think you can make an exception. You’re lucky you don’t have more children, so you don’t have to do this repeatedly. I’m your sole child, so it’s one and done. It’s fine.” Anurag responded, “I’m content as long as you’re happy. And I have to work hard.” Aaliyah added that it was acceptable since it’s a “once in a lifetime” affair.
During the same podcast, Aaliyah expressed her desire for siblings, prompting her to ask Anurag if he ever considered marrying again. Anurag, who has been married twice before, dismissed the idea, stating that he doesn’t view himself as someone inclined towards relationships and has no intentions of marrying for the third time. He humorously added, “Your father is too old to father a child.”
Reflecting on his role as a parent to Aaliyah, Anurag admitted to feeling like he hasn’t been the best father, though he emphasized that he has always aimed to be more of a friend than a traditional authority figure.

He acknowledged that his intense focus on cinema had led him to neglect his familial responsibilities. However, he acknowledged the importance of prioritizing family and happiness as one grows older, realizing that time spent with loved ones is invaluable.
