Almost Cops (Netflix) Review :-

The buddy cop comedy genre isn’t usually my favorite, but Netflix’s Almost Cops is a surprisingly enjoyable watch with a few genuinely entertaining moments. The story centers on the upbeat and unpredictable Ramon and his new partner, the stoic ex-cop Jack, as they investigate the murder of someone close to them. While the plot is admittedly thin, the film manages to hold up thanks to the chemistry between its leads and a handful of well-timed comedic beats.

Almost Cops is enjoyable—as long as you don’t think too hard about it. Luckily, there isn’t much depth to ponder in the first place. The film moves quickly from one moment to the next, skipping over the emotional groundwork that would make a loved one’s murder truly resonate or justify a turn toward revenge. As a result, Kevin’s death feels abrupt and underdeveloped; we don’t know him, nor do we understand his relationship with Jack and Ramon, which makes it hard to care.

Because of this, the story’s emotional core feels shallow. The film brushes against themes of grief and vengeance without really digging in, making them only vaguely relatable. Still, that’s not necessarily a flaw—Almost Cops doesn’t pretend to be more than a light, slapstick comedy. And in that regard, it succeeds. The humor, while expectedly goofy, feels surprisingly genuine and avoids the excessive shouting or over-the-top antics that often drag similar films down.

Ramon and his team are branded as chaotic from the very beginning—at one point even compared to toddlers—and the film consistently lives up to that description. You know to expect some ridiculous antics, and more often than not, the silliness delivers a good laugh. The heart of Almost Cops lies in the chemistry between Jandino Asporaat and Werner Kolf, whose dynamic keeps the film grounded. In the end, Almost Cops is a fun, easygoing watch that delivers some solid entertainment—but it’s ultimately a forgettable experience.

Final Thought

Almost Cops is exactly what you’d expect—a light, forgettable ride that sticks closely to the familiar tropes of the buddy cop genre. Still, it’s entertaining enough and occasionally funny, which, at this point, might be all you can really ask for.
