The disclaimer at the start clarifies that the series is a fictional work inspired by real events. However, it falls short in acknowledging its inspiration from the tragic Burari incident, with liberties taken for creative purposes. While the first two episodes, available on the platform, provide an engaging viewing experience, the series lacks the intensity and urgency found in recent investigation thrillers on various streaming platforms. There was potential for significant tension within both the police force and the victim’s family, yet the series barely explores this potential.
In the opening scenes, we meet Anya (Tamannaah Bhatia), a determined cop who apprehends an IIT-educated graduate for a credit card scam.
Later, she receives a call from her superior, instructing her to investigate the mass suicide of 11 family members. Initially thought to be a ritualistic act, the case takes a darker turn as investigations progress. Flashbacks provide insights into the Rajawat family, revealing the patriarch’s former police employment and a pivotal incident involving his son, Bhuvan. Aadesh, Bhuvan, Babita, and Kavita are siblings, and the tragedy occurs a week after Babita’s daughter Anshika gets engaged. Initial suspicions fall on Aman, Anshika’s fiancé, but the truth is more complex.
The series is somewhat overshadowed by Tamannaah Bhatia’s performance. While she portrays a dedicated cop, her portrayal lacks the emotional depth necessary for the role. Unlike performances such as Shefali Shah in “Delhi Crime” or Sonakshi Sinha in “Dahaad,” Tamannaah fails to convey the character’s emotional weight effectively. In contrast, Abhishek Banerjee as Bhuvan delivers a compelling performance filled with remorse. Supporting actors contribute to the authenticity of the drama, particularly through regional dialects and mannerisms.
“Aakhri Sach” offers a typical police procedural narrative with moments of effectiveness, primarily driven by its supporting cast. However, the overall execution feels underdeveloped, failing to recreate the terror and unease of the Burari incident. While the series is worth watching for its intricate plot, it leaves viewers yearning for a more intense and edgy portrayal.
