First impressions of the 6th episode of The Great Indian Kapil Show: Kapil Sharma introduces new guests – Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol – yet relies on the same tired jokes.
On Saturday, Kapil Sharma returned with an episode of The Great Indian Kapil Show featuring guests Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol. Please note that the term ‘new’ will not be used thereafter, as apart from the Deols, there was nothing ‘new’ in the latest episode. It felt as if Kapil punched in like a bored, reluctant employee, almost on the verge of quitting, and punched out without packing a punch. Too many punches? Writing about stale humor for the 6th consecutive time feels like it.
The show commenced with a behind-the-scenes clip of Kapil and the Deols announcing the episode. Amidst laughter, Kapil humorously remarked, “Tum log edit karlena, pata nahi kya kia hai humne (You guys edit, I don’t know what we have done).” This sentiment seems to be a recurring theme throughout the show.
Kapil Sharma’s team plunged into a costume extravaganza, embodying the legendary Deol clan in a lackluster sketch. Krushna Abhishek and Sunil Grover appeared as Dharmendra’s iconic character from Dharam Veer, while Kiku Sharda portrayed Sunny Deol’s character from Jeet and Rajiv Thakur depicted Bobby Deol’s Abrar from Animal. Despite their efforts to inject some spice into the script, the punchlines fell flat, hampered by stale writing. But wait! Sunil deserves a special mention here as he single-handedly rescued the skit with a spot-on impression of Rajpal Yadav — pure comedy gold!
During the interaction, the Deol brothers were enthusiastic about the success of their films, Animal and Gadar 2, from last year. They shared some endearing stories from their childhood and bantered like typical siblings. Then, Sunny shared a poignant moment as he became emotional talking about his family’s hard work to make a comeback in films.
While the Deols’ anecdotes injected a breath of fresh air, it was Sunil who once again stole the spotlight with his trademark wit and impeccable comic timing. Transforming into the unabashed Engineer Chumbak Mittal, he effortlessly cracked one joke after another while enjoying his drinks. Later, he delighted everyone by dancing with glasses perched on his head to Bobby’s iconic song “Jamal Kudu,” marking yet another memorable moment. However, Krushna Abhishek’s attempt to mimic Ranbir Kapoor’s Ranvijay Singh from Animal fell short, feeling more like a forced addition.
Overall, the 38-minute-long 6th episode felt somewhat tedious. Unlike the previous episode featuring Aamir Khan, Kapil Sharma couldn’t rely on star guests to elevate the excitement. The Deols, known for their reserved demeanor, maintained a low profile and didn’t offer any intriguing insights into their lives. This placed the burden on the writing team to devise clever skits, but unfortunately, they couldn’t match the previous level of entertainment.
