Sanjay, a passionate theater enthusiast from Jahanabad, Bihar, finds himself smitten with Aditi, his bold and senior college mate from Jaipur. Their love story seems straight out of a fairy tale, complete with successful careers and happiness. However, the shadow of their conservative families looms large as they pressure them to marry within their respective castes. Unable to shake off their families’ relentless pursuit, Sanjay and Aditi devise an intricate plan involving their theater friends Amay and Zubina, along with colleagues from work.

Their scheme involves staging two fake weddings, hence the title “14 Phere”. However, life throws unexpected twists, turning their comedy of errors into a complicated affair. Initially promising, the film’s plotline, akin to a Priyadarshan movie, loses steam as it progresses, becoming predictable and disjointed. Director Devanshu Singh attempts to infuse the narrative with poignant themes like casteism, honor killings, and dowry, raising expectations. Unfortunately, the screenplay fails to tightly knit these elements together.

While labeled a social comedy, “14 Phere” lacks memorable punchlines expected in such genre. Nevertheless, it offers clean family entertainment, suitable for all ages, particularly those fond of wedding dramas. Vikrant Massey impresses with his portrayal of a simple Bihari Rajput, carrying the film with ease. Kriti shines in her screen presence, especially in bridal attire, but falls short in matching Vikrant’s acting prowess. Jameel and Gauhar deliver delightful performances as theater actors, their banter adding charm to the film.

Yamini Das as Sanjay’s mother exudes warmth, creating heartwarming moments with Kriti as the daughter-in-law. The soulful rendition of “Ram-Sita” by Rekha Bharadwaj further enhances these poignant scenes. Despite its flaws, “14 Phere” will likely resonate with fans of family sagas and wedding dramas. It serves as a decent weekend movie pick for families, although improved writing and dialogue could have elevated its impact, given the thematic relevance.
