120 Bahadur Story :-

Set against the backdrop of the 1962 India–China war, 120 Bahadur chronicles the remarkable bravery of Indian soldiers under the command of Major Shaitan Singh Bhati (Farhan Akhtar), who valiantly defended the Chushul airbase during the Battle of Rezang La. Facing overwhelming Chinese numbers and battling the harsh terrain of Ladakh with limited resources, the 13th Kumaon Regiment—made up largely of Ahir soldiers and led by their Rajput Major—held their position with unwavering resolve until their final moments.

120 Bahadur Review :-

Director Razneesh “Razy” Ghai brings to life a poignant and extraordinary chapter of Indian military history that has seldom been portrayed on screen. Apart from Chetan Anand’s Haqeeqat (1964), remembered for its stirring anthem “Kar Chale Hum Fida,” Bollywood has largely overlooked this tale. These unsung heroes long deserved a film devoted entirely to their legacy — and Ghai, to his credit, stays true to that mission.

The film provides brief but compelling insights into how a community traditionally rooted in farming in the plains adjusted to the punishing cold, high altitude, and isolation of Rezang La. 120 Bahadur has plenty to reveal, yet by the time the credits roll, it leaves you with mixed feelings — touched by the immense sacrifice, but not as fully connected to the characters as you might have hoped.

The film’s action sequences emerge as its strongest asset. The tense showdowns — sniper duels, close-quarters gunfights, and hand-to-hand combat when ammunition runs dry — are genuinely gripping. Yet the narrative struggles to build sustained tension and emotional depth. The looming sense of an unavoidable assault never fully settles in, and the profound psychological burden carried by the soldiers doesn’t hit with the force it deserves.

Farhan Akhtar brings a gritty intensity to the role, even modulating his voice and physicality as he steps into an emotional landscape unfamiliar to his screen persona. He delivers several impactful moments, though there remains a subtle sense that this isn’t entirely his most natural terrain.

120 Bahadur Trailor :-

The supporting cast — Eijaz Khan, Vivan Bhatena, Ajinkya Deo, Raashi Khanna, Sparsh Walia, and Ankit Siwach — shows plenty of potential, but the film gives them far too little room to shine. Awkwardly timed flashbacks and formulaic backstories break the narrative rhythm, while uneven editing further pulls you out of the experience. Even the music falls short, lacking the emotional punch you’d expect — and it’s hard not to think of the stirring tracks from Border that could have lifted the drama here.

Final Thought

Despite its shortcomings, 120 Bahadur resists the urge to glorify war. Its sincerity is both its greatest virtue and its limiting factor. A heartfelt tribute presented within a familiar framework, it’s a film that ultimately deserved a more gripping and emotionally powerful execution.
